Welcome to the Henderson County 4-H Shotgun Sports Club!  We are delighted to have you shoot with us.  The 4-H Shotgun Sports events are American Skeet, American Trap, a version of 5-Stand called Whiz Bang, and Sporting Clays.  The club usually provides members with 2 rounds of shooting and 2 boxes of shells per meeting (12 and 20 gauge).  We do not provide shotguns to club members, but our coaches can assist you in selecting the right gun for your child.

Safety is our foremost concern.  Each shooter starts with a safety course, which will include the correct way to handle a shotgun, as well as, gun safety and shooting etiquette.  All shooters, coaches, and parents are required to wear ear and eye protection while on the fields.  Members shooting at club meetings must have a certified instructor present.  Each shooter will be required to follow all safety rules and sign a safety agreement form prior to shooting with the club.  One violation of the safety rules results in a warning, the second violation will result in removal from the shooting program.  There are no exceptions.

We are fortunate to hold our club meetings at 5H Shooting Sports in Frankston. The owners David and Kyle Hunt are great supporters of our club.  Please take time to let them know how much we appreciate their support when you visit.

Our club is self supported through fundraisers and donations.  If you shoot with us, you will be expected to assist with fundraisers throughout the year.  We hold at least one shoot each year to help fund our club expenses.  This 4-H year’s Annual Whiz Bang is April 15, 2023.  Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend and help.  Each member is required to solicit one sponsor for the fundraiser shoot so start thinking about who you know that can support 4-H Shotgun Sports.  The reason we are able to provide so much to our shooters without membership dues is our wonderful sponsors.

We encourage all of our shooters to compete in Whiz Bang competitions, including our own shoot, throughout the state.  These competitions are good preparation for the 4-H State Shotgun Sports Games held in July each year in San Antonio.  Club members have had great times attending events like these in the past and we encourage you to shoot as many of these events as you can.

We practice once each month at the regular club meetings.  From January to July, an additional competition team practice is held.  Once you earn the points to qualify, you will be invited to participate in those and provided with the schedule.  Shooters are encouraged to continue to practice weekly outside of club meetings and practices.  Doing this will ensure the shooter sees improvements in his or her overall performance.

Because we are a club, and not a project, we offer our members leadership and community service opportunities.  As a member of Texas 4-H Shooting Sports, you will have an opportunity to apply for and attend the annual Texas 4-H Shotgun Camp, as well as apply for the Texas State Shotgun Team and State 4-H Ambassadors program.  If you are interested in these opportunities, see a club manager.

We are excited that you have decided to join our club and look forward to seeing you shoot with us!
